Toulouse International Airport Train Transfers

Toulouse Airport is an important gateway to the south of France, and is located nearby the city of Toulouse, as well as just south of Blagnac. For this reason, the airport’s full name is Toulouse Blagnac Airport. Toulouse is quite a large airport, which handled over 9 million passengers in 2018, and is only expected to receive larger passenger numbers in the years to come. There is a large terminal building on the airport site, from where all international and domestic arrivals and departures are handled. Passengers will find a variety of facilities within the terminal as well. In terms of transportation at Toulouse Airport, there are a couple of options, but there is no train station at the terminal. However, passengers can easily travel by bus to the main railway station in the city center of Toulouse.

Traveling by rail is quite a popular form of transport in France, and the country has a good railway network between its cities. Many passengers arriving at Toulouse Airport travel by bus to reach the railway station in Toulouse, and then continue their journey by train. The bus that provides transport to the city center is the Flybus Airport Shuttle, and is available from the airport approximately every twenty minutes. The airport shuttle operates between the hours of 05:00 and midnight, and departs from outside Hall C of the arrivals area found on the ground floor of the terminal. A one-way bus ticket to the railway station costs around five Euro, and can be purchased from the sales outlets at the airport, or from the bus driver.

The Flybus Airport Shuttle is operated by Tisséo, and this company’s buses are modern, with air conditioning. They are also equipped to handle disabled passengers in wheelchairs. The airport shuttle is available for transport from the railway station to Toulouse Airport as well.

The main railway station in Toulouse is known as the Gare de Toulouse-Matabiau in French, or the Toulouse-Matabiau Railway Station. It is located in the city center of Toulouse, and is also served by the Toulouse Metro. The train station’s main lines are the TER Midi-Pyrénées and the Metro Line A. The train station is managed by the French state-owned railway company of SNCF.

Although other railway stations in Europe were established in the mid to later 1800’s, the current passenger building of Toulouse-Matabiau was only built in the early 1900’s, between 1903 and 1905. Marius Toudoire, who was also the designer of the Bordeaux railway station, and is constructed with stone from the Roman city of Saintes, designed the station. The station’s building was also improved in 1938. Toulouse’s railway station has a variety of facilities within its two main concourses, which include ticket offices, shops and cafés. The station is centered around these two buildings, and they are linked to the platforms by underpasses. There are also various SNCF facilities nearby Toulouse-Matabiau. About fifteen kilometers away is the Saint-Jory marshaling yard, and a bit closer, is the old Toulouse-Raynal goods yard. This area is now used for the storage and maintenance of engines.

The Toulouse-Matabiau Station is served by both regional and national trains. Regional trains are known as TER, and national trains are either TGV or Corail services. The station is connected to the regional lines of Toulouse-Montauban, Toulouse-Saint-Sulpice, Toulouse-Carcassonne, Toulouse-Tarbes and Bayonne, Toulouse-Foix and Toulouse-Auch. Some of the destinations of the TVG trains include Lyon-Part-Dieu, Montpellier-Saint-Roch, Marseille-Saint-Charles, Charles de Gaulle Airport, Bordeaux-Saint-Jean and Nîmes. There are also various night-train services available.

The trains at the Toulouse-Matabiau Railway Stations operate at various times and frequencies. Some are available as often as four times a day, while others are only weekend services. The ticket and information office can provide you with more details on all the trains available, or further information is available online, at the SNCF official website, www.sncf.fr. There is also a website section for regional services.

Visitors in Toulouse who are interested in exploring the main sights and attractions of the city can take a ride on the Touristic Train, and discover places such as the Capitole, the Basilica of Saint-SErnin and the banks of the Garonne. This train can be found in front of the post office, at rue Lafayette. Further information is available at https://www.petittraintoulouse.com.

Passengers arriving at Toulouse Blagnac Airport will also find information outlets in the arrivals area of the terminal, which can provide details about the airport’s services, or about trains and other means of transportation to and from the airport.
